After gaining his B.Mus, LRAM and ARCM, he studied at the National Centre for Orchestral Studies, as a double bass player, working with Simon Rattle, GennadyRozhdestvensky,ColinDavis,LorinMaazel,VernonHandley,Sir CharlesMackerras,GeorgeHurstand many others. This year proved to be a seminal influence on his musical views. Choral conducting has been a large part of his professional life, working with many different combinations of voices, of all ages. In turn, this led to much of his work as a composer and arranger. Richard is published in Norway by Norsk Musikforlag and Cantando, in Germany by Tonos, and in the UK by the RSCM. In 2001 he spent a year at Uppsala Cathedral, where he was one of the organists and conducted the Girls’ Choir, the Children’s Choir and the Youth Choir. He also gave several organ concerts in the cathedral and other churches in the area.Ålesund Chamber Choir produced a CD of his music in 2009, conducted by Rune Bergmann. He has worked over many years with Giske Male Voice choir, arranging much of their repertoire and accompanying them on several CD projects. Organ study has continued throughout his career, with Ralph Gustavson in Stockholm, Erwin Wiersinga and Roger Fisher. He has been especially active as an organ tour arranger for colleagues in Norway. These tours have taken him to Sweden, Holland, Germany, France and the UK.HenowworksfreelanceintheUK,composing,arrangingandtypesettingmanuscripts,aswellasoccasionallygivingorgan recitals.
